Masai Mara & the Seychelles — 11 Nights
Designed for a honeymoon couple · June
A honeymoon with a birthday inside it. They wanted the Mara without the crowds, one day that belonged entirely to the birthday, and an island finish that the June wind could not spoil.
Naboisho Conservancy, Masai Mara · 3 nights
StaySaruni Leopard Hill
Six tents beneath an old fig tree near three waterholes, with roofs that open to the stars — and night drives and walking safaris, which the national reserve does not allow.
Masai Mara National Reserve · 2 nights
StayIlkeliani Camp, Premium Tent
Into the reserve for the build-up to the migration, in the camp's quieter wing of tents.
Praslin · 3 nights
StayRaffles Seychelles, Panoramic Pool Villa
On Anse Takamaka, whose east-facing coves stay calm when the south-east trades blow. A day on La Digue by electric bike.
Mahé · 3 nights
StaySTORY Seychelles, Beach Pool Villa
Beau Vallon, on the sheltered north-west coast — the right beach for June.
What made it this trip, and no other
Sunrise balloon, on the birthday
The balloon lifts over the Mara at first light and lands to a champagne breakfast on the plains — booked for the birthday morning, once the couple had two days to settle in.
A private birthday
From late morning the day was theirs alone: a private game drive, cake and champagne in the tent, a sundowner and a bush dinner, with an optional night drive in the conservancy.
La Digue by electric bike
Anse Source d'Argent, L'Union Estate and Anse Cocos at their own pace — no coach, no schedule.
Praslin at the wheel
A convertible to the coco de mer forest of the Vallée de Mai, then Anse Lazio and Anse Georgette.
A private sunset charter
Three hours with champagne through the Sainte Anne Marine Park — snorkelling off Ile Moyenne, Ile Longue and Ile Ronde, and a picnic on a beach with no one else on it.
Dinner at La Grande Maison
The last-night table, with a tasting of premium Takamaka rum.
Why we built it this way
June is the Mara's green season — after the long rains, before the peak of the migration. Starting in a private conservancy gives the couple night drives and walking that the reserve does not allow; two nights inside the reserve then put them where the herds begin to gather.
The birthday falls on day three, not day one. By then the jet lag has gone and the camp knows them. Mornings start late on purpose.
In the Seychelles, June brings the south-east trade winds, and seaweed to the exposed beaches. So we chose hotels by the direction of the wind, not the brochure — Raffles on Praslin's east-facing coves, STORY on Mahé's sheltered Beau Vallon — and replaced coach transfers with cars they drove themselves.
