Wine estates by tram, then on horseback
The Franschhoek valley is best seen slowly. The wine tram links estates so no one has to drive: Haute Cabrière, whose cellar is carved into the mountain, and the old lawns of Boschendal. In the afternoon, we swap tasting rooms for horseback, riding through the vineyards as the light softens.

Long lunches on historic lawns.

Not at all. The estates are as much about the setting and the food as the wine.
Two nights is right — enough for one tram day and one slower day on an estate.
